Needs of the Navy

In recent years we have allowed male applicants to apply for whichever nuclear community they wanted (SUB or SWO) since they were needed in both categories. The NUPOC program authorization states that males will normally be allowed to apply for SUBS, NR ENG, or NPS instructor only. We are now at the point where we have to enforce the PA in order to meet the needs of the Navy.

In the past applicants who are only invited to interview for submarines have been sent to DC under the false impression that they could be a SWO-N (Don't ask me why, we always make it very clear what the applicant will be interviewing for). Some clever applicants would wait until they were at the interview or after they were accepted and say "I'll only sign up if I can be SWO-N". In the past we have acquiesced. We will no longer do so.

Now, we will send the applicant home w/o interviewing.

No male applicants (Who have graduated or will graduate in 2010) will be considered for SWO-N unless they are NPQ for SUBS or the needs of the Navy change. I encourage applicants to make an attempt for SWO-N if that is what they really want but they should understand the chances of getting it are exceedingly slim.

SWO-N is still open to all applicants graduating in 2011 and 2012.

Submarines, Instructor, and NR Engineer positions are still available for all males who apply.
